Gov. Nathan Deal has been confirmed to give the commencement address at Chamblee High’s graduation ceremony, an article on ajc.com reports.

According to the DeKalb county school district’s website, Chamblee’s graduation is May 24, 5:30 p.m. at North DeKalb Stadium.

The May 14th BAH networking event will be hosted by Consignment Furniture Depot from 5:30-7:30pm.    Consignment Depot is located at 5461 Peachtree Road, Chamblee, GA. (Across from City Hall)

The date for Taste of Chamblee has been set for Saturday, Sept. 28.  The committee is now beginning to assemble and new members are welcome. If you’re interested in assisting with the planning and execution of the event – including recruiting sponsors, restaurants, and attendees to the festival – this is your chance!  Any interested potential committee members can email Sarah Buckley at sbuckley@lionslighthouse.org.  Meetings will begin in late May.

Nancy Jester, former Dekalb school board member, will be our guest speaker at our April business meeting.

We will also have one of our State Representatives to bring us up to speed on the recent legislative session as it pertains to Dekalb County Schools.

CBA Business Meetings

CBA meetings are open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend. The meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at the Chamblee Civic Center, at 3540 Broad St. in Chamblee. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. and the program begins at 8 a.m. There is no charge for first-time guests; the cost for returning guests is $10 and $5 for members. A continental breakfast will be served.

With over 60 in attendance, at this week’s breakfast meeting, Trinity Development layout their vision for the redevelopment plans of Chamblee Plaza.  I was encouraged by Trinity’s comments on the property being a long term investment and wanting to turn it into the jewel of the Chamblee area.

2013 CBA President

Chamblee Plaza opened in 1960. Even today, people reminisce about Elliot’s Barber Shop, Plaza Sportswear, Woolworth’s, Revco Drugs, Radio Shack, and Athens Pizza. TRINITY Development Group (www.TRINITYDevelopment.net) acquired the 20 acre property in 2012 with a mission to redevelop Chamblee Plaza into a city center that will connect people with local businesses.

David Henzlik, a TRINITY Managing Partner, will provide an overview of redevelopment plans for Chamblee Plaza at the March 21 Chamblee Business Association Meeting.

Chamblee-based TRINITY owns and manages retail centers and student housing communities throughout the Southeast and West. Understanding that TRINITY’s philosophy is to explore and identify niches inside existing markets, creating unrealized or unseen opportunity, Chamblee Plaza was right in their sweet spot.

To best ensure meeting and exceeding the wants, needs, desires of local citizens in their redevelopment of Chamblee Plaza, TRINITY held a Town Hall Meeting last September that exceeded their expectations, not only for attendance and input from attendees, but also for an energy and enthusiasm that signaled a strong desire to work together towards a common objective. An outgrowth was formation of a Blue Ribbon Panel comprised of seven local area residents to assist TRINITY with their redevelopment plans. This group has met six times over a period of three months, providing valuable input into the design of a retail center with high quality local, regional, and national retailers, mixed with family entertainment and dining.

David Henzlik is a Managing Partner of TRINITY Development Group, Inc., of Atlanta. His main responsibilities include managing and recruiting a team of market leading brokers, and maintaining tenant relationships.

David will speak at the Chamblee Business Association March business meeting on TRINITY Development Group’s plans for Chamblee Plaza.

With more than 25 years in retail development, David maintains relationships with key national and regional retailers and restaurants, including Wal-Mart, Kohl’s, Best Buy, Michaels, TJ Max, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Staples, La Tagliatella, Chick-fil-A, and Applebee’s.

David was formerly Vice President and Director of Development Leasing for JDN Realty Corporation, the largest developer of Wal-Mart’s. In this role, he was responsible for Big Box and Junior Box anchor relationships, overseeing shop leasing. He also was in charge of as many as 15 developments at any given time.

David is a native of Kansas City, KS, and a graduate of the University of Kansas.
